Considering a Knee Replacement

Knee replacement is a big decision and is considered major surgery. So before you make that decision you need to see if you have any of the signs that you are ready for knee replacement. Here are four signs that may indicate you need knee replacement if:
 

1. You have knee pain when getting up from your chair or climbing your stairs. You have trouble going about your daily routine.

2. You have knee pain when walking, exercising, traveling or shopping in the grocery store.

3. Your knee pain keeps you awake at night.

4. You have tried treatments and you still have persistent knee pain.
 

It may be time for you to consult your doctor and talk about this matter. Some knee problems can be due to other factors that may not be indicative of knee replacement, your doctor will help you determine this.
 

You may not be ready for knee replacement if you have these signs:
 

1. Normal activity is not limited by your pain.

2. Your knee seems to be improving with other treatment options you’re taking.

3. You have not tried other treatment options yet.

4. You can do everything but activities like running or biking.
 

Some people have arthritis and moving to warmer climates has helped this knee pain and made possible to put off knee replacement. Knee replacement for many has been a good experience. Knee replacement is a big step but it has worked out successfully for many people, such as the University of Duke’s head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. So discuss your knee pain with your doctor and seek a second opinion.
